What are Dental Implants?

Dental implants refer to small, titanium posts that are surgically placed into a patient’s jawbone beneath the gumline to replace missing teeth. These posts fuse with bone tissue to form a strong bond just like natural tooth roots. Once healed, a custom-made dental restoration is attached on top to restore the visible portions of the missing teeth.

The 4 Step Dental Implant Process

  • Initial Dental Implant Consultation – The first step in your dental implant journey begins with a consultation at our office with Dr. Leezer and our team. We’ll make sure you’re a good candidate for the procedure by checking your oral health and jawbone density.
  • Dental Implant Surgery – We can complete the dental implant procedure right here in our office! As for the surgery, it’s surprisingly straightforward; after your mouth is numbed, the implant posts can be placed at precise angles and locations.
  • Dental Implant Osseointegration/Abutment – The implant posts will need several months to heal and fuse with your jaw through a process called osseointegration. From there, abutments can be attached on top of the posts, which will connect to your dental restoration.
  • Delivery of Dental Implant Restoration(s) – Dental implants can restore any number of missing teeth, so your restoration will be designed based on your specific needs. Once it’s been attached to the abutments and posts, it will be fully supported and ready to go!

Benefits of Dental Implants

Dental implants don’t just replace your lost teeth; they also drastically improve your overall quality of life! Some key benefits include:

  • They’re the only form of tooth replacement that replaces teeth from root to crown.
  • Dental implants restore the majority of your biting power and allow you to eat a variety of foods.
  • The implant posts stimulate your jaw tissue and prevent future bone loss.
  • With proper care, dental implants can last for decades or even a lifetime.
