As soon as you’ve realized your smile is hurt, you should:

  1. Call Our Office – Let us know what happened and describe your symptoms to us; we’ll tell you when you need to come in. Dr. Leezer and our team set aside time each day to handle dental emergencies, so don’t worry, we won’t make you wait!
  2. Attend Your Appointment – Dental emergencies do not simply disappear on their own, and while we may be able to provide you with care tips over the phone, you’ll still want to come in quickly so that we can take a look and determine how to assist you.
  3. Receive Urgent Care – Once you’re here, addressing your pain is our top priority! We will also quickly examine your smile and review your treatment options with you, including their timeline, price points, and what else you can expect. By the time you leave, you’ll be much more comfortable, and if any follow-up appointments are needed, they can be scheduled.

The Most Common Dental Emergencies

Dental emergencies come in all shapes and sizes. Even if you’re not suffering from intense pain, your situation might still warrant a visit to our Indianapolis office. To give you an idea of how we’re able to treat certain emergencies, just click on the icons below.

Toothaches

Is My Toothache a Dental Emergency? That depends largely on the severity of your symptoms. For example, if you just noticed that one of your teeth feels a bit sensitive, then scheduling an appointment at our office before the end of the week should suffice. Conversely, if you’ve been dealing with a sharp, stabbing pain for several days now, then you should visit our team at Evergreen Dental right away.

How You Should Handle a Toothache: Until your appointment with Dr. Hannah Leezer or Dr. Ken Leezer, rinse with warm saltwater periodically, use a cold compress for 10 minutes at a time, and avoid spicy, sugary, and crunchy foods. If needed, you can also take OTC pain medication as directed on the label.

How We Treat Toothaches: That depends on a few factors, starting with what’s causing your toothache. If it’s a small cavity, then we will likely be able to restore the look, health, and strength of your tooth with a dental filling. If your pain is stemming from an infection, however, then root canal treatment will likely be needed instead.

Chipped Teeth

Is a Chipped Tooth a Dental Emergency? Not always. For example, if you aren’t experiencing dental sensitivity or any other abnormal symptoms, then an emergency visit likely isn’t necessary. That said, you should still give us a call so we can schedule an appointment at our office within the next few days.

How You Should Handle a Chipped Tooth: There is a chance that the sharp edge of your tooth will cut the soft tissue in your mouth, which is why we recommend placing some dental wax or sugar-free gum over it. It’s also a good idea to avoid chewing on that side of your mouth, especially potato chips, popcorn, and other crunchy foods.

How We Treat Chipped Teeth: Cosmetic bonding, metal-free restorations, and veneers can all be used to restore the missing structure of a patient’s tooth. Once you arrive at our office and we have a chance to assess the severity of the damage, we can share our recommendations and answer any questions you have so you can confidently decide which one is best for you.

Cracked Tooth

Is a Cracked Tooth a Dental Emergency? Yes, this dental injury does warrant an emergency appointment, even if the damage seems relatively minor. After all, the more time that passes, the higher the chances are of the tooth breaking further. Our team at Evergreen Dental wants to intervene right away to reduce the chances of that happening!

How You Should Handle a Cracked Tooth: When you call to schedule your appointment with one of our dedicated emergency dentists in Indianapolis, we will walk you through what to do until you arrive, including rinsing your mouth with clean, room-temperature water periodically and not chewing on that side of your mouth.

How We Treat Cracked Teeth: Once you arrive at our office, we will alleviate any pain you’re experiencing and take a look at your tooth. If it can be saved with a dental crown, then that’s how we will recommend proceeding. If it has been damaged beyond the point of repair, then we will need to extract it before replacing it with a custom dental bridge or implant.
